This is a photographic series that offers a window into the daily lives of the fishermen in Jamestown, Accra.

The Jamestown fishing harbour is a busy and bustling place filled with sea sounds and smells. The scent of salt water and freshly caught fish fills the air, as do the sounds of fishermen calling out to one another as they work to mend their nets.

As I walked among them, I noticed fishermen at work, meticulously mending their fishing nets. The delicate art of net mending is essential to the fishing industry.

There is also a bustling market scene, with market women and Accra residents haggling with fishermen for the best prices for their fresh catch. The market is alive with energy and enthusiasm. Women are an essential part of the fishing industry, serving as a vital link between the fishermen and the local markets.

A group of young boys posed for photos with a miniature fishing boat representing the hope and continuity of the fishing industry in Jamestown. The children’s joy and laughter add to the community’s overall sense of optimism and positivity.
